If anyone is looking for a place for their parent or friend, you need not look any further. We were struggling with my father going through the stages of dementia, and general failings of age, medication, etc. and we were referred to this fabulous care home, Sunrise Home Facilities, managed and owned by Lida Cubillos.
He is now there and doing so well, we are able to breathe a sigh of relief and all the anxiety about him is now gone for us. Lida treats everyone like family, but with respect and privacy. She makes it all clean and comfortable for the 10 residents she and her staff care for. She was a registered nurse, and is a great patient advocate, she understands meds and the aging process - coordinating well with doctors, while at the same time also spending time with the residents herself, making them all feel special. My sister and I were very fortunate in May of 2000 to locate and secure the services of Lida Cubillos and Sunrise Home Facilities to care for our mother following a major stroke and sudden relocation to the Valley.
During the nine years that followed, we had opportunities to problem solve, deal with medical concerns and progressively greater care needs. With each of these challenges, Ms. Cubillos was responsive, caring and practical. Her guidance and attention to my mother’s health and well being was invaluable. She consistently grew and expanded her own skills and knowledge about senior care and operation of her facilities. The standard of care, sanitation, nutrition and emotional support that Ms. Cubillos provided and that she expected from her staff helped my family deal with, understand and cope with the needs of a dependent parent.
It was a unique opportunity to have a business and personal relationship with a caregiver who always dealt with our family with compassion and integrity. I learned a great deal and am positive that our mother enjoyed a much longer life and quality of existence than we would have been able to provide. Caring for a parent as he/she copes with medical and cognitive deterioration is difficult at best.
